Young Guns occupies Balls Corner, a heritage-listed 19th century building that once housed one of Melbourne's first department stores. Locals may remember it as The Ugly Duckling, the cocktail bar that opened here in 2014 from a team with pedigree across Mitchelton Wines, Melbourne Pub Group and Circa; it now trades under the Young Guns name.
The thing that sets it apart on Swan Street is service: full table service for cocktails and wine rather than the usual crush at the bar. The snacks made its reputation, black truffle potato chips above all, and happy hour runs 3pm to 6pm Wednesday through Sunday, trading late five nights a week.
